Nyasa Mining Cooperative

Nyasa Mining Cooperative is one of the players in Malawi’s mining sector. Established in 2016, the cooperative is geared towards addressing issues of marketing and value addition for small scale miners. The cooperative currently produces products like rings, necklaces, pendants, bangles and earrings.

Its business model involves buying raw stones from customers to add value and sell the finished product.
Members also bring their finished products and the cooperative sells on their behalf. SMEDI is working with the Department of Mines at the Ministry of Energy to form an association for small scale and artisanal miners. Nyasa Mining Cooperative is one of the potential members of this association.
